Disabled Tourism Label
The marque d’Etat Tourisme & Handicap has as a goal to bring a uniform and objective information on the accessibility of touristic sites and facilitites.
Tourisme & Handicap takes into account the four disabilities families (hearing, mental, motor and visual) and aim to develop a touristic offer adaptated and integrated to the general offer.
This brand is born from the collaboration of several acting parts : the Tourism Department, professionals from this sector, territorial collectivities and associations representing disabled people.
As a State Property, it has been registered at the National Institute for Intellectual Property, on the 12th February 2003 as a simple collective brand.
An objective information
The evaluations of touristic sites and facilities are made by pair working assessors from tourism and disabled line of business on the basis of precise and evolutive criterias gathered in requirements specifications, every five years.
The brand field has spread over the years to varoius touristic activities declined in 5 categories :
- Accomodation: campsite, bed and breakfast, collective accomodation, unusual accomodation, hotel, furnished touristic accomodation, tourist home and holiday village,
- Touristic information: tourism partner and tourist information center,
- Leisure : entertainment facilities, educational leisure activities, amusement park, nature sports and
- Restoration : café, bar, brasserie and restaurant,
- Visit: ecomuseum, visit site, theme park, prehistory site, company visit and guided tour.
A voluntary approach
The brand ensures the reception quality and allows to go from « Capacity to reception» that the laws approve, to « Will of welcoming» which comes from a voluntary approach from the provider.
The brand is indeed the acknowledgement of the will from a tourist professional to bring an answer to the individual demand, to disabled people to chose their holidays and their leisure freely, safely and independently.

A uniform approach
The brand ensures to disabled people and their family a uniform approach of criteria application throughout the national territory.
The brand complies not only to the accessibility obligations from the 11th February 2005 laws for equal rights and equal opportunities, the citizenship and participation of disabled people, but in some cases goes beyond the legislative and regulatory framework by offering a better offer for the reception and the services.
